If sculpture is space without time, music is time without space. Thus, both are godly arts without God.
Sculpture was known before Greeks as it was seen in Egyptians for instance. However, only with Greeks, Gods and Goddesses were able to be imagined in the form and content of humans. Before them, Gods were the kings only.
A union of God and human was seen in their mythologies, theologies and art, which could not be separated from each other. Such creative people, Greeks, were highly aware of temporal-permanent, divine-profane divisions as well as beauty-ugly with the exception of human-God. Therefore, they needed science, art and philosophy.
As humans were seen as godly creatures and Gods were seen in the shape of humans, to portray and freeze human body and soul required the best forms of body and soul through sculpture and music respectively.
To show and freeze human body and soul is possible only if you like, love yourself. It is this self-love, egoism and ego-centrism that Greek humanism was based upon. It is this pro-atheist paganism that they imagined themselves Godly, special creatures. The others were seen barbarian since they did not have urban life, citizenship, philosophy, art and science and did not speak Greek language.
Their competitive life as expressed well in their interest in sportive activities and political debates also required the perfect representation of talent, intelligence, success and glory. Sculpture of victories generals, respected politicians, winner sportsmen were made to express eternity and eternal symbol of success.
As for music, it meant the secret power, muse which was the whisperer of the divine powers to the ears of humans. It inspired the creativity, the godly powers of human. Only the formulas of it could be found out.
Sculpture was the frozen music and music the sculpture without voices.
Before Greeks, there had been sculpture and music, but no any atheist and democratic union of God and human in the forms of sculpture and music.
Literature was written music in the form of poetry and theater was made up of sculptures acting in the form of actors and actresses.
